Faculty Introductions
Katherine Richardson, M.D., is a dedicated medical professional and an active leader and member of the community in which she works and lives. She attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Upon completion of residency, she spent a brief stint in private practice before joining the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG).
In addition to her work as a practicing pediatrician, Dr. Richardson held multiple leadership roles at CMPG, including Primary Care Operations Chief and Director of Physician Experience where she spent time on physician engagement, leadership, and development. She recently left CPMG to pursue telehealth and locums work so she could focus on her consulting and entrepreneurial ventures. She is also an active part of the health tech community in Denver.
Christie Ward, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), completed her undergraduate work at the University of Southern California and graduate studies in Adult Education at Portland State University in Oregon. Since 1999, as the principal in The Impact Institute, she has facilitated communication topics at US and international conferences. She works with clients and helps teams in both the public and private sector, including the US Air Force, Department of the Interior, AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, G.E., Goodwill, and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, to name just a few.
She previously coached and managed more than 200 of the best professional trainers around the world for CareerTrack Seminars. She currently teaches Master Trainer Certification, as well as other courses for the Association for Talent Development, a global association of 40,000. In 2021, Ms. Ward was presented with the Martha Illige award from CPEP in recognition of her dedication to CPEP’s mission and to improving the care of patients both in Colorado and nationally. She regularly volunteers for the Tennyson Center for abused children in Denver, and serves on the Board for Together, We can change the world, a non- profit serving women and children in S.E. Asia.
Janet Steinkamp, Ed.D., holds a Doctorate in Education in Organizational Leadership and Health Care Administration from Grand Canyon University, where she is also a Senior Adjunct Faculty and Dissertation Chair for the College of Doctoral Studies. She received a Master in Arts from the College of Professional Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado, and a Bachelor in Arts from Colorado’s Mesa State University. She is currently Chief Executive Officer and Senior Consultant for JES Consultancy.
Dr. Steinkamp has previously served as Vice President of Academic and Student Services for Lamar Community College in southwest Colorado, Associate Vice President of Red Rocks Community College Health Sciences Campus in Denver, and Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services at St. Cloud Technical and Community College in Minnesota. She works closely with people to better understand their communication styles and how to manage conflict effectively and strategically coaches to cultivate and restore relationships. She is a strong proponent of ongoing inter-professional communication training for team members during onboarding and in the practice setting.
Matthew Steinkamp, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., C.C.P., is the Director of the Intermountain Health Employee Assistance program in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has served in various clinical and administrative roles with over 30 years of experience working collaboratively with individuals and organizations in health care, mental health, employee assistance, business and education settings. He is a licensed mental health professional, receiving his MSW degree in Clinical Social Work from Arizona State University. He is also a certified professional coach.
Mr. Steinkamp was instrumental in developing this inter- professional communication seminar and has been an instructor for many years. In addition, he regularly consults with CMOs, CEOs, and HR Directors regarding medical teams and physician issues. He provides professional coaching to physicians across several healthcare settings around topics such as conflict, communication, emotional intelligence, psychological safety, managing change, professional boundaries, and frustration management.
